SmartUQ Announces Technical Advisor, a Renowned Statistician

MADISON, WI ( May 25, 2017)- SmartUQ, an uncertainty quantification and analytics software company, announced the addition of the world-renowned statistician Dr. C.J. Jeff Wu as a technical advisor. Dr. Wu is the Coca Cola Chair in Engineering Statistics of the School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology and has received accolades from around the world for his contributions to statistics and data science.

As a technical advisor, Dr. Wu’s vast knowledge and expertise in statistics will help inform and guide SmartUQ’s continued development of analytics tools to analyze and capture uncertainty in engineering systems.

In 1997, Dr. Wu became the H.C. Carver Professor of Statistics and Professor of Industrial and Operations Engineering at the University of Michigan. In his inaugural lecture, “Statistics = Data Science?”, he coined the term “data science” and advocated for renaming statistics to data science and statistician to data scientist.

Now, Dr. Wu is an elected member of U.S. National Academy of Engineering, a member of Academia Sinica, and a fellow at Institute of Mathematical Statistics, the American Statistical Association, the American Society for Quality and the Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences.

Dr. Wu has won a multitude of awards including most recently, the 2017 Box Medal from European Network for Business and Industrial Statistics (ENBIS) and the inaugural Akaike Memorial Lecture Award from the Institute of Statistical Mathematics, Tokyo, and Japan Statistical Society in 2016.
